History of CVCEstablished in 1980, the Corporate Volunteerism Council (CVC) –Twin Cities is celebrating more than 20 years of successful collaboration between corporations and nonprofit agencies on community service efforts building a stronger community. The first CVC started in the early 1970's, where several companies in New York City were organizing their own corporate volunteer programs and met informally to exchange ideas and information. These informal meetings became the first CVC, now known as Corporate Volunteers of New York. Today, there are nearly 75 CVCs located throughout the country. No two CVCs are alike. Each develops in response to the interests of local companies and their employees, the concerns of nonprofit agencies, and the specific needs of the community. Here in the Twin Cities, the CVC's mission is to advocate, support, and grow workplace volunteerism to improve our community CVCs can belong to the Corporate Volunteer Council Partners Program. This program, sponsored by Points of Light Foundation (POLF) and Business Strengthening America, supports the development and growth of Corporate Volunteer Councils nationwide by providing resources, customized assistance, and networking opportunities for new and longstanding Corporate Volunteer Council leaders. The CVC Partners Program is truly a partnership between the Points of Light Foundation and locally-based CVCs. POLF is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization established in 1990 to motivate organizational leaders to engage their members in community service activities. As a member of this program, CVC –Twin Cities reaps the benefits and lessons learned from a network of CVCs across the nation that support employee volunteering. The CVC Partners Program provides resources, customized assistance, and networking opportunities for professionals interested in starting or strengthening Corporate Volunteer Councils. CVC Facts
