April 2003 - Who or What is MAVA?

Founded on November 14, 2001 , the Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administration (MAVA) is the result of collaboration among leaders from the field of volunteer administration, representing a broad spectrum of sectors and geographic locations throughout Minnesota . Over 40 groups participated in creating MAVA.

As a statewide alliance, its mission is to advance the profession of the management of volunteers through leadership, advocacy and education. As an alliance of professional leaders of volunteers, they envision environments that integrate managers, volunteers, programs and services to build strong communities. As part of its core values, they will:

  • Recognize our unique professional body of knowledge
  • Assure professional and leadership development
  • Empower groups and individuals
  • Strengthen cross-disciplinary respect and sharing
  • Foster collaboration
  • Encourage networking

April's meeting was an opportunity for CVC members to be introduced to MAVA and its structure. CVC and MAVA will work together to present July's CVC program of determining the value your volunteer program brings to your organization -- nonprofit or for-profit -and communicating that message both internally and externally.
