Member Spotlight: KARE11

KARE 11, owned by Tegna Inc., is the NBC affiliate in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn. The station’s mission is to serve the greater good and make the community a better place. Recognized for outstanding journalism, a commitment to excellence, and dedication to the community; KARE 11 is Minnesota’s Own.

KARE 11 is passionate about causes and issues facing our community and choses to sponsor a variety of community events and programs each year. KARE also awards grants to qualifying non-profits. Grants are awarded through the TEGNA Foundation, a corporate foundation sponsored

They value projects that take a creative approach to fundamental issues facing the community, including education, securing basic needs, neighborhood improvement, economic development and youth development.

In addition to valuing and supporting the work of non-profit organizations, KARE employees are encouraged to participate in a variety of TEGNA employee programs that include the following:

  • Using 10 hours of paid time to volunteer with an organization of their choice
  • Doubling employee’s donation to their favorite charity with a matching gift from TEGNA Matching Gift
  • Turning volunteer hours into dollars with a matching grant from Volunteer Match.

KARE 11 has been honored to participate annually in Make A Difference Day, a USA TODAY initiative supported by Gannett. The event takes place on the fourth Saturday in October and is a chance for KARE employees and viewers to come together in a collective volunteering effort. Participation in Make A Difference Day events has become a favorite among KARE employees.

As a station, KARE is passionate about serving the community and encouraging a spirit of volunteerism, not just with our employees, but with the community as a whole. We seek to tell stories that inspire viewers to take action and we want come alongside them when they do.

Being a CVC-TC member is a constant reminder of why Minnesota is such a fantastic place to live and work in. Volunteerism is a part of the culture here. We feel blessed to live in a place where volunteerism and community involvement is valued and supported and we love spending time with people that feel the same way.
