In this informative and motivating session, Chris Jarvis from Realized Worth and guest Jacob MacIsaac will discuss the concept of allyship and why it is critical for both community investment and workplace dynamics.

Attendees will learn how volunteering can help with building equity and empathy in peer relationships at work and in life, and the principles to effectively lead allyship within their company or organization. Everyone will leave feeling inspired and ready, with tools, to take action!

Presenters

Chris Jarvis co-founded Realized Worth in 2008. Chris’ research and presentations focus on corporate citizenship as a powerful mechanism to address the critical social and environmental issues facing our global society.

Chris has 25 years of experience working with corporate and nonprofit executives to develop results-based impact strategies. He is a renowned public speaker and author, with education and experience in the fields of neuroscience, organizational change, behavioral insights, and transformative learning.

In 2015, Chris founded the RW Institute (RWI), a think tank focused on advancing the practice and theory of corporate volunteering through innovative projects, research, analysis and public policy change.

Jake MacIsaac is the Assistant Director, Dalhousie University Security Services. In this role, he leads a team of public safety professionals who strive to promote inclusive community through restorative approaches. The philosophical shift in service delivery from an enforcement squad to a people- first relational model using an equity, diversity, and inclusion lens has had tremendous impact on employee morale, recruitment, and retention.

Jake spent several years as the Lead Caseworker at Nova Scotia’s largest restorative justice agency, overseeing case work staff and managing 700+ youth justice referrals from police, the prosecution service and the courts. He was part of a three-person facilitation team that oversaw the restorative justice process at Dalhousie’s Faculty of Dentistry in 2015 addressing climate and culture within the Faculty of Dentistry. He was also a co-author of the "Report from the Restorative Justice Process at the Dalhousie University Faculty of Dentistry." 

Jake also co-facilitated the first restorative justice process in Nova Scotia in relation to a death in custody. The full report available here.
