Founded in 1905, C.H. Robinson is one of the world’s largest third-party logistics (3PL) providers. With more than 11,500 employees worldwide, they know that their people are their most valuable asset. That’s why one of the most important aspects of their charitable giving efforts supports the many causes that their employees are passionate about, which results in deeper engagement and a stronger commitment to their community programs.
Their 1,600 Minnesota employees participate in over 30 community events throughout the year ranging from drives to large-scale volunteer opportunities to fundraising events. With a broad range of opportunities, employees are able to select the opportunities that mean the most to them. Some examples of these opportunities include:
- Largest corporate team at the JDRF One Walk with over 650 participants in 2015
- Title sponsor and large team participation in the MS 150 bike ride for MS Society
- Annual employee-giving campaign Robinson Cares Week donated over $280,000 to local charities in 2014
- Email mentoring and mock interviewing with local high school students through BestPrep
- Toy drives for Children’s Hospital and Toys for Tots
- Volunteer support at the KS95 for Kids Radiothon benefitting Children’s Cancer Research Fund and Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare
- Five blood drives benefitting Memorial Blood Centers
Thanks to the dedication of their employees, C.H. Robinson has had many successes over the years. Here are a couple examples of their volunteer efforts:
They contribute both time and funds to True Friends, a nonprofit that provides camp and respite experiences for people with disabilities. Over the past three years, 199 volunteers donated 597 hours of labor at the camp. Employees and their families raked, cleaned, cleared brush, and helped with other maintenance activities to prepare the camp for the summer season, saving their single maintenance staff member valuable time to spend improving the camp in other ways. Since 2007, the C.H. Robinson Foundation has given True Friends $100,000, which goes towards projects like creating a multi-sensory play room and putting in a sensory playground for future campers.
One of their most notable volunteer campaigns is the company’s work with Open Arms of Minnesota. Open Arms is the only nonprofit organization within the state that cooks and delivers free meals specifically tailored to meet the nutrition needs of individuals living with chronic diseases. C.H. Robinson’s relationship with Open Arms is multi-faceted, as they support the organization through employee volunteer hours, board service, Foundation grants, and event sponsorships. In 2012, they gave Open Arms a grant to support the expansion of a new delivery route in Minnesota’s Southwest suburbs. Since the routes opened, the company’s employee volunteers dedicate their lunch hour once a week to support three additional delivery routes. Most recently, C.H. Robinson served as a sponsor of their first annual 24 Hour Cook-A-Thon event. C.H. Robinson employees donated nearly 100 volunteer hours in a 24-hour period and raised $11,460 for the cause. In addition, two C.H. Robinson leaders have served on the Open Arms board of directors and are actively engaged in the promotion and advancement of the mission of the organization.
