Tax-time volunteers make a big impact on people’s pocketbooks + financial futures.
Prepare + Prosper (P+P) is working toward financial wellness for everyone. The nonprofit combines the power of caring volunteers and expert training to provide free services that help low- to moderate-income people with taxes, finances, and planning for the future. Whether a volunteer is preparing taxes or helping people save, they change lives and make an immediate difference.
PREPARE + PROSPER’S IMPACT
Each year, with the help of more than 530 trained, IRS-certified volunteers, P+P prepares taxes for nearly 13,000 people and returns more than $24.6 million in refunds. At P+P, tax time is a money moment—an opportunity for individuals and families to use their refund (the average refund of a P+P customer is $1,951) to build financial well-being. P+P encourages this by pairing free tax preparation with saving promotion and products to help people save some of their refund, and by offering additional financial services and coaching to help customers work toward their financial goals and build assets.

Each skills-based volunteer opportunity allows volunteers to learn new skills or enhance skills they already have. Whether it’s a passion for taxes or finance, problem solving, working with others or customer service, P+P will find an opportunity that fits your unique skills set. Every volunteer is required to attend free training before the first volunteer shift.
Intake Specialists are the ultimate hosts, keeping tax clinics running smoothly and ensuring each and every customer has a stellar experience.
Tax Preparers prepare tax returns and get customers their maximum refund, encouraging them to meet with a financial advocate to talk money and savings.
Tax Reviewers put the seal of approval on P+P’s top-notch tax preparation services.
Financial Advocates make tax time a money moment by helping people save. These volunteers offer financial products and services that will help people get control of their finances and plan for the future.
Financial Coaches listen, encourage, support, and help people create a plan and stick to it. They work one-on-one with people working to reach their financial goals.

ORGANIZATION-SPONSORED EVENTS & FUNDRAISING
Taxathon – This two-day, 24-hour tax preparation marathon event happens during P+P’s busiest time of the tax season. Volunteers help prepare 400+ tax returns for 200+ taxpayers, returning more than $700,000 in refunds during these two days. Throughout the event there are contests for kids and adults, food, and a live “result board.”
Give to the Max Day – On this one-day giving event, P+P raises nearly $100,000 thanks to nearly 500 donors. That’s 40% of the total individual contributions the organization raises throughout the year. With its #givetogeeks campaign, P+P engages donors, volunteers, and supporters of P+P on this giving holiday.
Tee Off for Taxes – This event brings corporate sponsors and P+P volunteers and supporters together for a shotgun scramble golf tournament and lawn bowling tournament that raises more than $40,000 to support P+P’s work to build brighter financial futures.
